Imogen Cooper |
Imogen Cooper has established a reputation as one of the finest interpreters of the classical repertoire. She has appeared with major orchestras around the world, including the New York Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Gothenburg Symphony, Royal Concertgebouw, Leipzig Gewandhaus, and the London and NHK Symphony Orchestras, and has toured with the Camerata Salzburg as well as the Australian and Orpheus Chamber Orchestras. She has played with all the major British orchestras, including the Philharmonia with Christoph Eschenbach and the London Philharmonic Orchestra with Mark Elder at the BBC Proms, and has appeared in recital in New York, Chicago, London, Paris, Vienna, Rotterdam, and Prague.
During the 2010–11 season, Imogen Cooper appeared with the Philadelphia and Royal Scottish National Orchestras, and joined the Takács Quartet for performances of Schubert’s “Trout” Quintet in London, Spain, and Germany. She also took part in the “Mozart Unwrapped” series at Kings Place in London. Other recent highlights include solo appearances with the Toronto and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestras, and performing with and leading the Northern and Britten Sinfonias. Her performances of Schubert’s late piano works as part of the International Piano Series in London were recorded and released under the title “Schubert Live” (Avie).
A committed chamber player, Imogen Cooper performs regularly with the Belcea Quartet and has enjoyed a long collaboration with Austrian baritone Wolfgang Holzmair, with whom she has performed Lieder in major venues in Vienna, Paris, and London and made several recordings for Philips. She also performs frequently with cellist Sonia Wieder-Atherton, with whom she has recorded music of Bach and Brahms. Other recordings include the boxed set “Imogen Cooper and Friends” (Philips), four Mozart concertos with the Northern Sinfonia (Avie), and a solo recital at Wigmore Hall (Wigmore Live).
Imogen Cooper was made a CBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours in 2007 and is the recipient of a 2008 award from the Royal Philharmonic Society.
