A perfect marriage of music and poetry, this is one of Handel’s most imaginative works for the stage. L’Allegro, il penseroso ed il moderato sets John Milton’s immortal verse in a vivid musical dialogue between the contemplative man and the happy man. “Untwisting all the chains that tie the hidden soul of harmony,” Jane Glover conducts an evening of deeply moving, expressively beautiful, marvelously witty music.
